Bodega Javier Sanz Viticultor obtains high scores in the 2020 edition of the Peñín Guide. Once again, the wines of the winery achieved scores higher than the average of the D.O. Rueda.
The publication, one of the most important of the sector at national level, granted 94 points to VDulce of Winter 2015; 93 points to VColorado 2015, V1863 2014 and VMalcorta 2018; and, for his part, Javier Sanz Verdejo 2018 achieved 90 points.
Recognition
V Dulce de Invierno, with 94 points, has been the wine that has obtained, in its fourth consecutive year, the highest score. It is an original, unique wine, the result of the mixture between the grapes verdejo and Grasa de Cotnari (a romanian grape). This wine is the result of 3 phases of complex elaboration: the freezing of the grape, the natural drying in a dark shadow and the late harvest.
V1863, awarded with 93 points, is a Verdejo made exclusively with grapes from the family’s pre-phylloxera vineyards. In 1863 these vineyards were registered, hence the name of the wine. This vineyard is el Pago de Saltamontes, 2.27 hectares with more than 155 years that today allow to elaborate this elegant, unique and historical wine aged for 9 months on its fine lees. Its production is limited to 2,897 bottles.
VColorado, meanwhile, submitted for the first time to the guide, has achieved 93 points. With a Gold Medal at the 2019 Concours Mondial de Brussels, this wine is made with the genetics of an red strain that grows in the family vineyard of El Pago de Saltamontes. It stands out for its originality and surprises for its personality on the nose and for a great persistence in the mouth. It ages 10 months in French and American barrels and, afterwards, it continues for more than a year ageing in the bottle. Its production is limited to 1,087 bottles.
VMalcorta, also with 93 points, is made with an autochthonous clone of Verdejo that had practically disappeared and that Javier Sanz recovered exclusively. This clone is distinguished by a greater natural acidity and by an aromatic personality and elegance that have given it great recognitions.
Javier Sanz Verdejo, the emblem and flagship of the winery, has scored 90 points. It is the maximum expression of Rueda Verdejo, faithful to its origin; bred 3 months in its fine lees is a bright, aromatic wine with a very pleasant acidity. |
