Javier Sanz Viticultor ends the harvest 2019 successfully

After more than a month of hard work, Javier Sanz Viticultor finished today, Thursday, October 10th, the vintage 2019 successfully in a good-productivity campaign.

Varieties

As usual, the harvest began with Sauvignon Blanc on September 4th. The French variety was followed by the Verdejo grape, the majority of the winery that has vineyards both in trellis and in bush.

Of those which are planted in bush, stands out ‘El Pago de Saltamontes’, 2.27 hectares of pre-phylloxera vineyard, harvested by hand and collected in boxes of 10 to 12 kilos. The process in this plot goes very fast since, from the beginning until it arrives at the winery, only pass 2 hours preserving all the properties of this special Verdejo, in the best state.

Subsequently, the harvest continued with Malcorta, clone of the Verdejo collected by hand (despite being trellis due to its care). Malcorta, was recovered by Javier Sanz exclusively after 20 years of research. Its vegetative cycle is longer which gives it higher natural acidity and a unique aromatic elegance.

Finally, were harvested the red varieties (Bruñal and Colorado) with which we  produce homonymous wines and from which production is expected to increase this year due to the good vintage.

“Outstanding Quality”

In this regard, Javier Sanz highlights: “The wines of this vintage will be of exceptional quality, since the grapes were in a perfect sanitary state. The first musts we have tasted of each variety indicate this.”

Javier Sanz Viticultor has 104 hectares of its own vineyards, located in the heart of the D. O. Rueda. The average yields for this vintage have been 7,000 kilos / hectare in the vineyards in trellis and 1,200 kg / ha in the vineyards in bush.
